Lawyers Unite to Promote Pro Bono
Today (7 November 2011) sees the start of National Pro Bono Week
To herald the seven days of events, Hogan Lovells recently held a gathering of eminent lawyers hosted by Attorney-General Dominic Grieve QC to mark the launch of another high-profile pro bono initiative. The International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) is a scheme aimed at encouraging senior and veteran lawyers to engage in international legal work for free.

ISLP celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a
Gala Luncheon on Thursday, December 1, 2011 with honored guests George Soros, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and a special greeting from actor Matt Damon. The International Senior Lawyers Project-UK ("ISLP-UK") seeks a senior-level barrister or solicitor with experience in the legal systems of the Commonwealth for potential desk-based pro bono assignments related to judicial review cases in Jamaica, before the Supreme Court of Jamaica.
Oxfam have asked ISLP to recruit lawyers to help prepare for the upcoming global arms trade treaty negotiations.
